Mbole Ofika figure - SOLD OUT
This African statue represents a hanged man convicted of a crime. This is a type of object specific to African art Mbole in Congo. We recognize these figures by their caped headdress, their arched trunk, the arms outstretched from the body, hands resting on the thighs, and the slightly bent legs with hanging feet.
It seems that the dead man could also be emptied of his fluids. These were then requisitioned by the village chief who then used them in order to take the strength of the dead.
