Colonial influence in traditional African art

Old statue of colonist Baoulé. The wood is predominantly tinted with black and red pigments. The colonial style is very marked. It is an artistic current that has mingled slightly with traditional African art objects. The statues of settlers were carved to order, but also as a historical testimony of the passage of a Westerner in the village.

Presented on a circular base with remarkable traces of antiquity, the effigy of a colonist stands upright with his hands in his pockets. The shapes that the sculptor inflicted on the lower body are remarkable, the calves, thighs, buttocks are modeled to perfection. He is dressed in European attire, shorts, classic shirt collar.
