Pende Munyangi mask
The Eastern Pende (pl. Bapende) are renowned for their very graphic traditional Munyangi masks. These masks were worn to celebrate the end of the initiation rites of young boys and during agrarian rites organized during millet sowing.
About the growths located at the top of the mask are neither horns nor ears, but they represent the weapons of the leader, a symbol of his power.
