Female figure - Igala - Nigeria - SOLD

Igala figures in African art premiere

Igala artifacts are uncommon and representations of pregnant women or mothers with children are even more so. We know much better artistic corpus close ethnic groups like Mumuye or Montol.

The authentic statue here is slender, has a ringed neck and a ridge as a hairstyle. Note the details present on the statue: the thin face, the presence of numerous scarifications on the face and body, including breasts, mystical and aesthetic signs.

This unusual piece is in a very good state of preservation that will delight fans of remarkable objects. The abdomen is very prominent, a sign of the promise of future generations, a blessing for tribal peoples.
