Iron primitive currency - Chamba - Nigeria

Primitive currencies in traditional African art

The traditional system of African trade or rituals has gradually been developed to involve objects usually made of iron, or even copper. These very varied objects are brought together under the term "primitive coins".

Depending on the region, one can identify their style by the form and the finely engraved patterns that adorn them. The traditional African art object proposed here is in the form of a stem whose ends are terminated by bells.
