Kongo Yombe Phemba maternity figure - SOLD OUT
Beautiful African statue (58 cm high) depicting a Phemba or Pfemba type maternity home among the Bakongo. Sitting cross-legged, the mother holds the child in the palm of her hands. We find on the torso the scarifications worn by women for aesthetic and ritual purposes. The headdress also bears similar patterns.
The elongated neck carries the head forward. The face is expressive, the teeth cut as tradition dictates.
