Figure Sakimatwematwe (Iginga) in African Lega Art

Multi-headed Iginga Lega Statue: Iginga-type African statues are the most powerful in the so-called "Bwami" cult. During ceremonies, they are rubbed with palm oil which gives them this beautiful patina. It also sometimes happens to "grate" them, sawdust and chips into medicinal potions to be ingested. "When they have several heads, they are called Sakimatwematwe, a superb authentic object worthy of the greatest collections of tribal art.
