Nkishi in African tribal art

Our art gallery is pleased to offer you this authentic Nkishi / Nkisi statue from the Songye. It is a protective statue. She is in a remarkable state of conservation considering her advanced age. There is the horn containing the magic charge called bishimba. This traditional figure is still endowed with several accessories including necklaces made of glass beads, small elements in fabric or leather, as well as a loincloth. The face is covered with metal veneer to attract the lightning to preserve the owner of the statue.

The character is standing on a hemispherical promontory. The feet are arched to fit this promontory. The head is turned 90 ° to the left. The face is very symmetrical and equibrated. Superb figure Nkishi, worthy of the greatest museums.
